Yet another New York City trip! As you might already know, because of previous blog posts, I’m obsessed with exploring and adventuring in New York City. Yesterday, I got the chance to attend the taping of the ABC show, The Chew. The show is all about cooking!! I went with my mom and it was a really nice way to spend quality time together.
We sat on the bus headed towards Port Authority, which is on 42nd Street. As soon as we arrived, we got off the bus and started walking towards 67th Street, where The Chew’s studio is located. My mom and I originally planned to take a bus from 42nd to 67th uptown but decided to walk it instead for fresh air, even though it was quite rainy. The rain didn’t kill my vibe. I was just excited to get out of the house, go to New York City, and see a daytime TV show in person. Not to mention, see famous people!!!! The hosts of the show are Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz., and Michael Symon.
On our way to the studio, we got hungry for breakfast. We found this amazing place called Lenwich. This place had very healthy options for breakfast and lunch. Definitely a good place to check out if you’re in the area because of the taste and decent prices. My mom and I both ordered an egg white delight breakfast wrap. SOOO GOOD AND SOOO HEALTHY! Inside the wrap was egg whites, cheese, kale, avocado, and cucumber. I’m actually going to try to make this myself because I want it again for breakfast.
After walking for almost an hour, we finally reached the studio where taping would be held. We waited in line for about half an hour, outside, and in the rain before we were let in. They went through standard protocol by checking bags, going through a metal detector, and checking our tickets. After, we were guided to a waiting area with all the other audience members. This is the time where you go to the bathroom, take pictures, and you usually receive refreshments and water. At The Chew, they gave out chips (not the healthiest option). I’ve been to other tapings like The Rachael Ray Show and there they gave out muffins and sponge cake type of snacks.
After waiting for an hour in this room, we were finally taken into the taping studio. The REAL taping studio. The word cool does not do this place justice. It is much more than cool. Lights, camera, action is no joke because there’s literally lights everywhere blasting right in your face, and four camera men plus photographers. The amount of people on set is insane!!! All the people that make one show happen is amazing and it’s really interesting to see it all come together.
Now if you’ve never been apart of a live audience before then I’ll just give you a quick wrap up of what it’s about. Well, first off, it’s about having fun. You came because you’re interested in the show and you want to have a good time. There’s usually a comedian who opens before the show starts and he/she is the person who tells the audience when to clap during the segments. All you have to do is clap, smile, and “woooo”!! It’s as simple as that. If you get lucky, you might even see your face on TV once the show is aired. Don’t forget to DVR it!!
Disclaimer: The order in which you get seated is completely random. My mom and I got to the studio’s line on time yet we ended up getting worse seats than people who came after us. Since this is a free show, there is not much you can do about it. We were just grateful to be apart of the audience.
As for The Chew, I enjoyed the show. My mom and I had fun clapping, dancing, and seeing the special guests. The Rockettes and David Muir from ABC World News were the special guests. I would definitely go back and would recommend it to any of you. I mean its FREE!! So why not?
After the show, the hosts thanked the audience for coming and said their goodbyes. However, Clinton Kelly stayed longer and talked to the audience. He even took pictures with the audience and really showed he cares. Great guy! My mom and I were particularly excited about seeing him because we use to watch him on the show, What Not to Wear. I use to watch that show all the time since I’m into fashion. When a celebrity takes the time to talk to their fans and interact, it demonstrates their good character. I’m glad I got to meet him, shake his hand, and take a picture!!!!
My mom and I were really happy with the outcome of our day thus far. We decided to start walking back to the bus terminal but take a slight detour to a few key places we wanted to quickly visit on our day trip to New York City. Here are some pictures which I hope you enjoy!!
All in all, I had a great time in the big apple with my mom. We did soooo much walking and turns out, we took about 15,000 steps that day!! Hopefully, my iPhone is actually correct about that number!
Try going to a free TV show taping and see how you like it! Hope you enjoy and more to come!
